Would You (Intentionally) Dress Like Your Man?

Posted by Jandika 9:04 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - Hollywood power-couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes stepped out in NYC yesterday wearing super-similar jeans, tan boots, his-and-hers Wayfarer sunglasses and cozy sweaters. While she opted for a camel cardigan, and he wore a black crew-neck, there was definitely something very matchy-matchy about their ensembles. We secretly love the TomKat/Brangelina look-alike phenomenon, but we can't help but wonder how it applies to real life. Do you think it's cute—or a little bit creepy?

Learn From These Celebs' Bikini Blunders

Posted by Jandika 9:02 PM, under | No comments

Ahh summer. The long days, the weekend trips, the photos of stars picking their wedgies. Study these examples of bad beach behavior and don't make the same mistakes. Because what good is looking hot in a bathing suit if you end up getting caught doing something mortifying?

1. Heidi Montag
If you can afford to get new, bigger tatas, Heids, we have a feeling you can afford to invest in some new, bigger bathing suit tops.

2. Coco and Ice-T
Say what you want about Coco, but don't knock the woman's phenomenal buoyancy.

3. Avril Lavigne
Hey, this happens to the best of us. But if you're about to lose your top, there are more subtle ways of fixing it.

4. Zhang Ziyi
Since when did PDA start standing for Public Display of Ass-Grabbing?

5. Victoria Silversted
Didn't you hear, Victoria? The thong is dead. And digging for it between your cheeks is deader than dead.

6. Kate Moss
We don't want to even begin to think about the wacky tan lines Kate is going to have...

The Interview Trap Smart Women Fall Into

Posted by Jandika 8:58 PM, under | No comments

career womanGoodForLadies - You'd never wear a plunging V-neck or micro-mini to a job interview, but we were shocked to discover just how offensive sexiness can be to some hiring managers. A new UK study of 2,000 bosses found that you can seem unprofessional if you wear a fitted top in an interview — and that includes a turtleneck. The same applies on this side of the pond: In a recent Cosmo survey of more than 500 US job recruiters, nearly 70 percent said "dressing provocatively" is a deal-breaker.
What makes them so skittish about clothes that hug or flaunt your curves? "Interviewers who are men won't be thinking about your qualifications if they're thinking about your sex appeal, and interviewers who are women will assume you'd be a distraction in the office," says career expert Donald Asher, author of Cracking the Hidden Job Market. Either way, Asher says, they're not going to hire you. Of course, a lot of jobs practically require you to look fashionable and hip, which is what makes it so tricky. Yes, this is a ridiculously sexist issue, but if your goal is to score the job, you have to know how to walk the line.
Keeping Your Hotness In Check
The problem with a word like "provocative" is that it can mean different things to people in different industries, career expert Martin Yate, author of Knock 'Em Dead: Secrets and Strategies for Success in an Uncertain World. And since some workforces encourage savvy dressing, it's important to suss out the place you're applying for in advance.
If you're going for a gig in retail or at a restaurant, swing through a few days before your interview to see what the people who work there are wearing. A lot of companies want their employees to reflect the image of place, so it's okay to wear a cute dress if it's a trendy atmosphere. Try to limit yourself to wearing just one sexy thing, so pair it with a blazer to make it look more work-appropriate, says career expert Nicole Williams, author of Girl on Top: Your Guide to Turning Dating Rules into Career Success. If you opt for sky-high heels, wear a dress with a hemline that comes to your knee to balance things out, or, if your dress falls above the knee, wear it with kitten heels.
Read on for tips on how to dress for fashion and PR job interviews, and what to do when you notice a last-minute fashion mishap.
Since it's hard to get into the office beforehand if you're interviewing for a job in fashion, PR, or sales, stake out a spot at a coffee shop across the street around the time the office opens or closes and scope out the outfits of the women who are coming and going, recommends Lois Frankel, PhD, author of Nice Girls Just Don't Get It. Take mental notes on what you see and incorporate them into your interview outfit.
For fashion jobs, you have some leeway with your style, but take a pass on sheer shirts, says Yate — even if you wear a tank top underneath — and necklaces that end right above or at your cleavage (it's like an arrow pointing at your boobs). Instead, opt for a hip dress that isn't too fitted, cute heels, and layered necklaces. Top it off with a flowy cardigan if you want some extra coverage.
For PR and sales, you want to convey a powerful, confident image, so it's key to dress in a way that shows you can look fashionable while maintaining a businesslike aura, says Williams. Try a silk shirt with a cute ruffle, a pencil skirt that lands just above your knee, and a fitted blazer. And sit in front of the mirror at home before your interview to make sure your shirt doesn't show too much cleavage when you lean forward.
Last-Minute Fixes
For all your preparation, sometimes you realize there's an issue with your outfit at the 11th hour. Don't stress — most are totally fixable.
If you notice your skirt is a little on the short side en route to your interview and you have a few extra minutes, pop into a drug store for a pair of dark-colored tights. They'll cover up your exposed skin, making your hemline look less teeny. If you've already arrived for your sit-down, excuse yourself to the bathroom before you meet with the interviewer and pull your skirt down on your hips an extra inch or two, recommends Williams. If you're wearing a blazer over top, you can even unzip your skirt a little to pull it down lower. Keep your legs together during the interview instead of crossing them to prevent your skirt from riding back up.
If the front of your V-neck is dipping deeper than you remember, simply turn it around and wear it backwards for a chic style that won't reveal too much in the front. And if you end up second-guessing yourself on your top or your hemline, just keep your jacket on and unbutton it in the front. It'll do the same job as a blazer by balancing out the sex appeal with a more business-like silhouette.

Eyebrow Advice for Future-Princess Kate Middleton

Posted by Jandika 8:51 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - Sure, Kate Middleton is gorgeous (oh, and she's marrying a prince!), but she's still a real girl with real girl flaws—just like the rest of us. And we can all use a little beauty advice from time to time.
We recently talked with Hollywood brow guru Eliza Petrescu (she's created some fabulous arches, from J. Lo to Mary J.), and she had a few things to say about Kate's biggest beauty blunder: Her eyebrows. “If I could put my finger on those eyebrows, I would work wonders," said Eliza. "They are so bad. She needs to let them grow out. They need to be in the right place, and the top of the eyebrow needs to be fixed.”
With less than three weeks until the royal wedding, we're curious to see if someone intervenes to whip Kate's brows into shape. Although Eliza hasn't been called, she said she'd drop everything to fly across the pond and help out the future princess. Kate, we'd be happy to put you two in touch!

Anne Hathaway Looks Sexy in Glasses

Posted by Jandika 8:51 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - From The Princess Diaries to The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway has made a career out of going from geeky to glamorous in some of our favorite movies. But in her real life, rather than choosing one look and persona over the other, this girl seems to walk the line incredibly well. She's simultaneously gorgeous and brainy—and isn't that the best combination? So of course she can rock a pair of specs and still look like the stunning super-star that she is. Here are a few tips to get Anne's sexy glasses get-up:
1. Try a cool, intentionally messy hairstyle like a volumized pony or bed-head waves.
2. Don't skimp on your makeup. You can still wear shadow, liner and mascara behind your glasses. Just make sure the shades are neutral so they don't clash with your frames.
3. Wear your glasses with everything—except sweatpants. You want to look sexy, not schlubby. They even work with an embellished cocktail dress like the one Anne’s wearing here.

Do you wear glasses? Do you have any tricks for looking sexy when you wear them?

Weekend Rehab: At-Home Keratin Treatment

Posted by Jandika 8:50 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - My hair is naturally pretty curly, and even though I don't always wear it that way, I've been afraid of the full-on commitment of having it chemically straightened. I was curious about all the different keratin treatments that hit the market over the last few years...but then the scary truth that many of them contain formaldehyde was revealed (check out our April issue for more info on the toxic treatments). Plus, the in-salon versions are expensive! (We're talking hundred and hundreds of dollars.) And you can't wash your hair for three days, which is just too gross for me considering you're not supposed to hide the greasy mess in a ponytail or fix it with dry shampoo.
So when I heard about Keratin Earth, an all-natural, 80-dollar, at-home keratin kit, I had to give it a try. It was simple and very quick: I washed my hair with their shampoo, combed in the treatment, let it sit for 10 minutes, washed it out, applied some of their leave-in conditioner and then blow-dried and flat-ironed as usual. Because my hair is fine, I only left the treatment on for 10 minutes (instead of the recommended 20 for very course/curly tresses), and I didn't go nuts with the straightening. I couldn't give up my curls completely—I just wanted to smooth/de-frizz them. And that's exactly what I got: It was another drizzly morning here in NYC, and my hair totally held up. It's wavy and still has plenty of volume, but the crazy, wispy curls around my face (they drive me crazy) have been tamed! You can use Keratin Earth every 30 days, and I'm definitely putting it on my regular weekend rehab schedule.

The Date Hair to Try This Weekend

Posted by Jandika 8:48 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - We have a major case of lock lust. Amanda Seyfried sported some seriously sexy waves last night, and we're dying to recreate them. The easiest way to get these retro finger waves? A triple-barrel iron. We tested out this one from Gold n Hotand in 10 minutes, we had finished our entire head, and had achieved Amanda's style. Now we just need some black liner and a bright lip, and our date-night look is complete.

Look Hot This Weekend: Brooklyn Decker's Nude Lips

Posted by Jandika 8:47 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - Obviously some of Brooklyn Decker's hottness is impossible to copy—she is a walking fantasy babe, don't you think? But aside from her, um, physical assets, she's also rocking a very sexy, new haircut and gorgeous makeup in this pic. The best part is that it's super easy to copy the look—and wear it out this weekend. The key products are liquid liner and a rosy-nude lipstick (Benefit makes a shade called "Rumer: Rose Quartz" that looks just like this one). Be sure to only line your top lid—you can even go a little thicker than Brooklyn for a night out—and really pile on the lip color. Then, throw on a nude or pink dress to complete the effect.

Hanna Star Saoirse Ronan's Pretty, Grown-Up Makeup

Posted by Jandika 8:46 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - Saoirse Ronan, who plays an assassin in the spooky flick Hanna (which comes out tomorrow), isn't a legal adult until next week, but her look is much more sophisticated than her seventeen years. She arrived at last night's premiere with subtle yet knock-out gorgeous makeup. Sure, it's the work of makeup artist Georgie Eisdell, but the young celeb did have some input: "Saoirse loves color so I wanted to incorporate a splash of color in her look," said Georgie. The result was this pretty eye makeup that is actually purple! Georgie used Dior 5-Color Shadow in Mystic Smokys, but to get the look at home try any deep purple shadow and a small angled brush. Then, to pick up more color, wet the brush before dabbing it into the powder—it'll look just like liner.

Would You Tint Your Ta Tas?

Posted by Jandika 8:45 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - Chances are you've heard of Benefit's classic rosy lip and cheek stain, Benetint, before. But, you likely don't know the slightly-scandalous reason it even exists, and neither did we until this week.
In telling us about their new mango-hued stain, Chachatint (coming out in July), Benefit let us in on the secret behind Benetint—it was originally made in the 70s for an exotic dancer who needed something to "enhance her nipples while dancing." Um, what?!
At first, we thought this was hilariously crazy, but then realized it would actually come in handy post-spray tan. Anyone who's ever been sprayed knows it turns everything (yes, even your nips) tan. The way we see it, a dab of Benetint on your ta tas is way less painful than scrubbing your nips back to their natural hue.

How to Take Off Crazy-Waterproof Makeup

Posted by Jandika 8:43 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - We are huge fans of liquid eyeliner—and the only thing better than liquid liner is waterproof liquid liner. Once you get that cat-eye just right, you don't want it going anywhere until you're done for the night (or the next morning!). But on the flip side, sometimes when you're ready to wipe it all away, it's easier said than done. So we caught up with Stila makeup artist Sarah Lucero to find out what she uses to undo her work. "You need a really good makeup remover," explains Sarah. "Lancôme makes a great one that you shake. Another one I like is by the brand Klorane—it's creamy and feels really great when you apply it. I've been using it backstage at fashion shows for years."
Another great use for eye makeup remover, says Sarah, is to put a dab of it on a Q-Tip to clean up smudges when you’re creating the look to begin with.

Details galore on the big day

Details galore on the big day

GoodForLadies - The Association of American Correspondents in London has released some juicy logistical details about the day of the royal wedding. If you're planning on playing along in the United States, be sure to set your alarm clock for 3 a.m. if you're on the East Coast, and if you're on the West Coast - make it an all-nighter! The "day" kicks off at midnight for you.
PREPARATION
  • Rehearsals have reportedly been ongoing. Several have taken place but details have been kept mum
  • Roughly 10 days before the wedding, the Palace will release a highlights sheet denoting guests who have indicated they're happy to speak with members of the media
  • Two weeks before the wedding, the Palace will announce exact details about the timings of arrivals
  • A few days before the wedding, the media is expected to be able to snap photos of Westminster Abbey adorned with flowers, at which time details about the florist and color schemes will be released
THE BIG DAY
  • 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.: It will be announced whether William and Kate will take a new title. The decision will be made by the couple and the Queen
  • 8:30 a.m.: Guests will begin arriving at Westminster Abbey. Members of the general congregation and guests who arrive before 10 a.m. will use a side entrance known as the Great North Door
  • 10 a.m.: The VIPs start to arrive - Government officials first (both foreign and domestic), to be followed by royal families. Kate Middleton is set to arrive before the Royal Family
  • 10:40 a.m.-10:50 a.m.: The Royal Family will arrive, with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh being the last of the family to enter the Abbey
  • 10:50-11:00: Bridesmaids arrive
  • 11:00 a.m.: Kate Middleton and her father will arrive (collective sigh/gasp!). Details about Kate's dress have not been released in-part because Kate wishes to surprise William (a traditional prerogative/superstition). The moment Kate steps out of the car, details about the dress, shoes and accessories will be released and distributed
  • The service will be officiated by the Dean of Westminster. As is tradition, the marriage will be solemnized by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Prince Charles played a huge role in selecting the music. Only Kate will wear a wedding band
  • 12:15 p.m. (approximately): Bells will ring as the couple exits the Abbey. A carriage procession will head to Buckingham Palace
  • 12:30-12:40 p.m.: Carriage procession will arrive at the Palace
  • 12:40 p.m.: Private family photographs will be taken inside Buckingham Palace - an official shot of the happy couple is expected to be released Saturday morning by 11 a.m.
  • 1:25 p.m.: The couple, the Queen and their families will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace
  • 1:30 p.m. (precisely!): There will be a Royal Air Force fly-past
  • 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.: Approximately 300 guests will return to Buckingham Palace for dinner and dancing hosted by Prince Charles. The crowd will mostly be friends and family, particularly William and Kate's young friends. Speeches will take place

Kate Middleton's face on a jelly bean?

Kate Middleton's face on a jelly bean?

GoodForLadies - First, there was the image of the Virgin Mary on a grilled cheese sandwich. Then there was Jesus' face on a pancake. Then there was the Elvis Presley potato chip. Now Kate Middleton's likeness has been spotted on a jelly bean.
According to the London's Daily Telegraph, a couple from Somerset, England discovered the yellow and red speckled mango-flavored treat in jar from a place called The Jelly Bean Factory.
The couple hopes to sell the jelly bean on eBay for £500 (nearly $1,000 USD).
Wesley Hosie described the moment his girlfriend, Jessica White, opened the jelly bean jar, telling The Telegraph, "As Jessica opened the jar, I saw her immediately. She was literally lying there staring back at me."

Kate Middleton inspires nail polish shade

GoodForLadies - You may have to "fly to Blighty" to buy royal wedding nail decals, but in the U.S., you can get your hands on (pun intended!) a nail polish shade inspired by Kate Middleton.
Butter London has released a limited-edition shade called "No More Waity, Katie" - a nod to the nickname the tabloids gave Kate before William put a ring on it.
What better way to get your nails in shape (again, pun intended!) for the royal wedding?
Initially a UK exclusive, the chemical-free (as are all Butter London products), glittery, lavender color can now be purchased stateside through Kaboodle.com.
Kaboodle editor Jennifer Haley told "Unveiled," "Butter London 'marries' two of our current obsessions on Kaboodle - the royal wedding and nail polish."

Bold Colors For Your Hair

Posted by Jandika 4:04 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - Out with the old and in with the new! All over streaks and highlights are so yesterday! Now the monochromatic look is back in style and sexier than ever.
Blondesblonde hair
Amp up your dos by brightening your base and blending in any existing highlights. For extra shine, do a monthly gloss treatment.
Brunettesbrunette
Go for two tones darker than your roots. A deep chocolate or a coffee shade will make your do super shiny and ultra sultry.
RedheadsAuburn Hair
Avoid copper hues which can make for pale complexions. Instead, opt for shades of auburn or amber.

Wearing Two Eyeshadow Colors

Posted by Jandika 4:03 PM, under | No comments

GoodForLadies - The world of makeup can be a somewhat hard and confusing place. Sometimes whatever you’re trying to do works, and sometimes you fail miserably. Either way, it’s all with trial and error that you learn to perfect yourmakeup techniques. Now that summer’s upon us, we can start experimenting with an array of different colors and styles.
One of my favorite things to do is to combine two different colored eyeshadows together. I’m not talking about blending in different shades of the same color, but actually using two distinct colors that can be seen as two different colors on your eyelids.
Before you do this, you must realize what colors go with your hair color and skin tone. If you’re fair, stay away from dark, dramatic colors as it can be too big of a contrast. Try going for a green and yellow combination, as it works on almost any skin tone.
Apply the green eyeshadow (sea-foam green, nothing too crazy!) to the inner corner of your eyelids, and follow with the yellow eyeshadow on the outer corner. It might look funny at first, but you’ll get the hang of it, and you will absolutely love wearing two different eyeshadow colors!eyeshadow.jpg
